The short answer is YES! Most of us are familiar with the story of Cain and Abel from the book of
Genesis where the Lord found favor with Abel and not Cain, and Cain became jealous and killed his brother. When the Lord asked Cain where his brother was, his reply was the familiar quote "Am I my brother's keeper?" Can't you just hear Cain's snarky tone? The rest of the story describes how God banishes Cain, who then resolves to become a "restless wanderer...that anyone may kill...at sight." But, God in his infinite mercy, spares Cain by marking him so he would not be killed.
Why? So what does this have to do with our Lent Suggestion? Scripture has a lot to say about how we treat others.
Matthew 12:31 ..."Love your neighbor as yourself."
John 13:31 ..." all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another." And
1 John 4:21 "...whoever loves God must also love his brother."
The programs offered by Real Life Catholic teach how to apply biblical principles to our everyday life, so giving them as a gift is a way to practice almsgiving (the programs are at a cost) and show love towards others. Perhaps you and a loved one can choose and participate in a program together. We all have something to learn no matter our age.
What to Expect? There are a few programs to choose from, which are at a cost of $20 or $37. The recipient will receive an email each day or can log on to the website to view the video and reflection. Programs to consider are:
RISE: 30 Day Challenge. RISE is a 30-day challenge for men who desire greater peace, balance, and fulfillment in their lives.
I AM coaching program. God wants the best for his children, and through this course, you can put away the shame, insecurity, and fear that is keeping you from living a life full of freedom, joy, and purpose.
College Connection. 80% of Catholics who stop practicing their faith do so before their 23rd birthday, most while in college. Don't be a statistic.
